学院简介
学院办学历史悠久。园艺园林学院源于1985年成立的湖北农学院园艺系,2003年组建长江大学园艺园林学院,至今已有40年的教学科研人才培养历程。学院秉承“明德笃学 精艺致美”院训,以学科建设为龙头,以人才培养为核心,以队伍建设为抓手,以产教融合为途径,形成了本科、硕士、博士完整的高等教育人才培养体系,在教学科研和人才培养方面取得了丰硕成果。学院现有园艺、园林、风景园林、智慧农业4个本科专业,1个自然教育微专业,有博士、硕士学位授权点,在校本科生828人,硕博士研究生321人。
师资队伍实力雄厚。学院拥有以国家高层次人才特殊支持计划创新领军人才领衔的科研教学团队,现有教职工75人,其中专任教师58人,教授15人(其中二级教授2人)、副教授27人,具有博士学位教师40人;博士生导师5人、硕士生导师52人。国家高层次人才特殊支持计划领军人才1名,享受国务院政府津贴专家1人,湖北省“百人计划”2人、楚天名师1人、楚天学者计划6人,湖北省自然科学基金杰出青年获得者2人。
学科科研成效显著。学院以园艺学、风景园林学为学科引领,以“面向世界科技前沿、面向经济主战场、面向国家重大需求”为科技创新方向,以生姜、银杏、楠木、菌根、核桃等为科研载体,近五年来,主持参与国家重点研发计划项目、国家自然科学基金项目、湖北省重点研发计划项目等各类科研项目165项;获省部级和国家行业学会(协会)科学技术奖20项,其中一等奖1项,二等奖6项;出版专著教材17部;发表高水平论文600余篇;育成新品种3个;授权国家发明专利24件。现有1个博士后流动站,1个二级学科博士学位点“园艺植物资源与利用”,1个一级学科硕士学位点“园艺学”,2个专业硕士学位点“风景园林”和“农艺与种业”。风景园林学是湖北省重点培育学科,园艺学是“十四五”湖北省特色优势学科群“农产品绿色高效生产”的支撑学科。
专业建设与教学改革成果丰硕。2022年智慧农业获批国家新农科专业。园艺专业2014年获批教育部首批“拔尖创新型人才”培养模式改革试点项目,2016年获批湖北省普通本科高校“荆楚卓越农林人才”协同育人计划项目,2019年获批湖北省一流本科专业。园林专业2014年获批教育部首批“复合应用型农林人才”培养模式改革试点项目,2019年获批湖北省一流本科专业,2022年获批国家一流本科专业。近五年来,获批教育部新农科研究与改革实践、教育部产学合作协同育人、湖北省教学研究等项目9项;获得省级及以上教学成果奖4项;获第四届全国高校教师教学创新大赛二等奖1项;获批湖北省一流课程5门。2021年,园艺专业系列课程教学团队荣获湖北省“省级教学团队”,2024年,园艺教研室荣获湖北高校省级优秀基层教学组织。
科教平台助力人才培养。学院拥有香辛园艺植物种质创新与利用湖北省重点实验室、湖北省生姜脱毒种姜快速繁育研发中心、长江大学农业科技产业园楠木种质资源基地、生姜品种与绿色生产湖北省科技成果转化中试研究基地、荆州市香辛作物企校联合创新中心等科技平台,建有基础教学实验室、大学生创新训练实验室和科研实验室三类功能实验室,获批省级科技小院3个。学院科研教学实验平台吸引了园艺、智慧农业、园林专业50%以上的本科生和100%的研究生参与老师的科研项目和实验实践教学,培养提升了学生科研素养和实验技能。近五年来,获批国家级、省级大学生创新创业训练项目60余项;2024年,荣获第十一届中国青年创青春大赛国赛金奖,米兰设计周-中国高校设计学科师生优秀作品展国赛一等奖。毕业生就业率持续稳定在95%以上,毕业生综合素质高,动手能力强,受到用人单位的好评。本科生考研录取率连续攀升,先后有100余名学生被浙江大学、上海交通大学、中国农业大学、华中农业大学、南京农业大学等“双一流”高校录取。
品牌化产学研合作办学。学院结合学科特色、专业优势,打造学院文化品牌——“艺林青春”,邀请聘请校外行业专家和企业家进校园、进课堂,开展产学研协同育人。组织在校大学生参加“长江杯”风景园林规划设计创新大赛、东篱花制作大赛、茶艺基本功大赛、景观手绘大赛,组织在校大学生制作布置菊花展、多肉植物展、植物标本展、规划设计与景观作品展、香氛展等社会实践活动,提高学生专业素养和综合素质,丰富其校园文化生活。学院与中国科学院武汉植物园、中国农科院蔬菜花卉研究所、湖北省林业勘察设计院、湖北省农科院果树茶叶研究所和经济作物研究所、广东省农科院、上海市农科院等知名科研院所和著名企业建立了一批稳定的实践教学基地。学院先后与韩国首尔国立大学、美国北达科他州立大学、美国杜克大学、加拿大卡尔加里大学等国外知名高校签订了联合办学协议,互派访问学者、互派本硕交流生、联合培养本科生与研究生、合作开展科学研究。

College Introduction
The college has a long-standing history of academic excellence. The College of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture boasts a rich academic heritage. Originating from the Department of Horticulture established in 1985 at Hubei Agricultural College, it evolved into the College of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Yangtze University in 2003, marking over 40 years of dedicated teaching, research, and talent cultivation. Upholding the motto of "Virtue and Diligence in Learning, Exquisiteness in Art and Beauty". With discipline construction as the leading factor, talent cultivation as the core, team building as the starting point, and integration of industry and education as the approach, it has established a complete higher education talent cultivation system for undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students, and has achieved fruitful results in teaching, scientific research and talent cultivation. The college currently offers four undergraduate programs: Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Gardening, and Smart Agriculture, along with one micro-program in Nature Education. It is authorized to confer both master's and doctoral degrees. The institution has an enrollment of 828 undergraduate students and 321 graduate students (master's and doctoral candidates).
The faculty team is highly competitive. The college has a scientific research and teaching team led by innovative leading talents under the National Special Support Program for High-level Talents. Currently, there are 75 faculty members, including 58 full-time teachers, 15 professors (including 2 second-level professors), 27 associate professors, and 40 teachers with doctoral degrees. There are 5 doctoral supervisors and 52 master's supervisors. There is 1 leading talent under the National Special Support Program for High-level Talents, 1 expert enjoying the special allowance from the State Council, 2 talents under the "Hubei Province's Hundred Talents Program", 1 "Chutian Famous Teacher", 6 talents under the "Chutian Scholars Program", and 2 recipients of the Outstanding Youth Fund of the Natural Science Foundation of Hubei Province.
The college has achieved remarkable results in disciplines and scientific research. Guided by the disciplines of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, the college focuses on cutting-edge global technologies, economic priorities, and national strategic needs. Research centers on ginger, ginkgo, nanmu trees, mycorrhizae, walnuts, etc. Over the past five years, faculty have led or participated in 165 research projects, including national key R&D programs, National Natural Science Foundation projects, and Hubei provincial key R&D initiatives. They have won 20 provincial, ministerial, or industry association awards, including one first prize and six second prizes. Additionally, they have published 17 monographs and textbooks, over 600 high-impact papers, developed three new plant varieties, and secured 24 national invention patents. Currently, The college hosts one postdoctoral research station, one doctoral program in "Horticultural Plant Resources and Utilization", one master’s program in "Horticulture" and two professional master’s programs in "Landscape Architecture" and "Agronomy and Seed Industry". Landscape Architecture is a key developing discipline in Hubei, while Horticulture is a supporting discipline for the "Green and Efficient Agricultural Production" characteristic and advantageous discipline group of Hubei Province during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
The specialty construction and teaching reform have achieved fruitful results. In 2022, smart agriculture was approved as a national new agricultural specialty. Horticulture was approved by the Ministry of education in 2014 as one of the first batch of "top-notch innovative talents" training mode reform pilot projects, in 2016 as the "Jingchu excellent agricultural and forestry talents" collaborative education program project in Hubei Province, and in 2019 as the first-class undergraduate major in Hubei Province. Landscape architecture was approved by the Ministry of education in 2014 as one of the first batch of pilot projects for the reform of the training mode of "compound application-oriented agricultural and forestry talents". It was approved as a first-class undergraduate major in Hubei Province in 2019 and a national first-class undergraduate major in 2022.
Over the past five years, 9 projects have been approved, including those related to the research and reform practice of new agricultural sciences by the Ministry of Education, the industry-education cooperation and collaborative education program of the Ministry of Education, and teaching research projects in Hubei Province. Four teaching achievement awards at or above the provincial level have been won. One second prize has been obtained in the Fourth National Teaching Innovation Competition for University Teachers. Five first-class courses in Hubei Province have been approved. In 2021, the teaching team for the series of courses of the Horticulture major was honored as a "Provincial Teaching Team" in Hubei Province. In 2024, the Horticulture Teaching and Research Office was awarded as an excellent grassroots teaching organization at the provincial level among universities in Hubei Province.
The scientific and educational platforms contribute to talent cultivation. The college has scientific and technological platforms such as the Hubei Key Laboratory of Germplasm Innovation and Utilization of Spicy Horticultural Plants, the R&D Center for Rapid Propagation of Virus-free Ginger Seeds in Hubei Province, the Nanmu Germplasm Resources Base of the Agricultural Science and Technology Industrial Park of Yangtze University, the Pilot Research Base for Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements in Hubei Province for Ginger Varieties and Green Production, and the Jingzhou City Enterprise-University Joint Innovation Center for Spicy Crops. It has established three types of functional laboratories, including basic teaching laboratories, innovation and training laboratories for college students, and scientific research laboratories, and has been approved for three provincial-level science and technology institutes.
The scientific research and teaching experimental platforms of the college have attracted more than 50% of undergraduate students majoring in Horticulture, Smart Agriculture, and Landscape Architecture, as well as 100% of postgraduate students to participate in the scientific research projects and experimental teaching of teachers, cultivating and improving students' scientific research literacy and experimental skills. In the past five years, more than 60 national and provincial innovation and entrepreneurship training projects for college students have been approved. In 2024, it won the first prize in the national competition of the Excellent Works Exhibition of Teachers and Students in Design Disciplines of Chinese Universities at the Milan Design Week. The employment rate of graduates has remained stable at over 95%. Graduates have high comprehensive qualities and strong practical abilities, and have been well received by employers. The admission rate of undergraduate students for postgraduate entrance examinations has been continuously rising. More than 100 students have been admitted to "Double First-Class" universities such as Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, China Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University, and Nanjing Agricultural University.
Branding industry university research cooperation in running schools. Leveraging its disciplinary strengths, the college has built the cultural brand *"Youth in Art and Nature", inviting industry experts and entrepreneurs to campus for collaborative education. Students participate in competitions like the "Yangtze Cup" Landscape Design Innovation Contest, flower arrangement, tea art, and hand-drawn landscape design contests, as well as exhibitions featuring chrysanthemums, succulents, plant specimens, and fragrance displays. These activities enhance professional skills and enrich campus life. The college maintains partnerships with leading institutions such as the Wuhan Botanical Garden (CAS), the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hubei Forestry Survey and Design Institute, and provincial agricultural research academies. It has also established exchange programs with Seoul National University, North Dakota State University, Duke University, and the University of Calgary, facilitating joint research, scholar exchanges, and student mobility.
With the implementation of rural revitalization and "Beautiful China" initiatives, demand for horticulture and landscape architecture professionals continues to grow. Pursuing studies in this field promises a dynamic and rewarding future!
